Getting started

Requirements

  • Microsoft 365 with SharePoint Online and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • An administrator who can upload apps to the SharePoint app catalog and approve API access for the whole tenant (for example a SharePoint Administrator together with a Global Administrator).
  • Modern SharePoint pages or Microsoft Teams. SharePoint Server (on-premises) is not supported.

1. Upload the package to the app catalog

  1. Download the coOrgChart package (coorgchart.sppkg).
  2. Open the SharePoint admin center › More features › Apps and go to the app catalog.
  3. Upload the package. When asked, choose to make the app available to all sites.

2. Approve API access

coOrgChart reads your directory with Microsoft Graph. After the upload, SharePoint lists three permission requests. Approve them in the SharePoint admin center › Advanced › API access:

Permission Used for
User.Read.All People, managers, job titles and other attributes.
Presence.Read.All Teams presence on the cards (optional).
GroupMember.Read.All Group filters such as “only show members of group” (optional).

All three are delegated, read-only permissions: coOrgChart always acts with the signed-in user’s rights. Without GroupMember.Read.All, everything except the group filters works. See Permissions and security for details.

3. Add coOrgChart to a page

  1. Edit a modern SharePoint page and add a section, ideally a full-width one.
  2. Click +, search for coOrgChart and add the web part.
  3. Open the web part settings (pencil icon) to choose views, filters, colours and fields. See Configuration.
  4. Publish the page.

Microsoft Teams

In the app catalog, select coOrgChart and choose Sync to Teams. Afterwards, add coOrgChart as a tab in any team. In a tab, the chart uses the full height.

Trial and licence

Every tenant can use coOrgChart free for 30 days, with all features and without entering anything. To continue afterwards, enter your licence key in the web part settings. See Licensing.

Updates

Upload the new package to the app catalog and replace the existing one. All pages and settings stay as they are.
